Academic Division

The Postgraduate Research Office (PGRO) maintains an overview of activity related to postgraduate research students (PGR) across the collegiate University.

Working closely with colleagues in Education Services and in Schools and Colleges, we seek to maintain and improve PGR student provision through policy review, development of and contribution to related initiatives, and sharing best practice.

We provide specific support to the University’s Doctoral Training Programmes and Centres for Doctoral Training, and expertise to guide faculties and departments in complex student matters.

What we do

The Postgraduate Research Office is responsible for the overview and co-ordination of activity related to postgraduate research students across the Collegiate University, through:

  • Development and review of policy and practice for postgraduate research students and their supervisors
  • Overseeing quality assurance of postgraduate research courses
  • Providing bid support and co-ordinating key activity related to Doctoral Training Programmes and Centres for Doctoral Education, and expertise in the rules and expectations of UKRI and its constituent Research Councils
  • Offering advice, guidance and support to faculties, departments and Colleges on matters related to postgraduate research students
  • Maintaining expertise in matters relating to postgraduate research students
  • Supporting a number of collegiate University committees in the development and delivery of education strategy and progression of initiatives relating to postgraduate research student matters

We work closely with colleagues across Education Services, and in consultation with students, departments, faculties, Schools and Colleges on projects and activities affecting all areas of the postgraduate research student experience.

How we can help

We are available to assist departments, faculties and Colleges with various matters relating to the postgraduate research student experience including matters relating to PGR supervisors.

In the first instance, please refer to resources available online. Extensive up-to-date guidance for Faculties, Departments and Colleges is available on a SharePoint site specifically developed for those who support PGR students (please note you will need to request access to this through the link below). Equally, information for students is available on the Cambridge Students website.
